Art & poems

Art & poems

A new output of the WG4 communication team is an art & poem series. In collaboration with Prof. David Fraser, we are combining his poems with illustrations of WG4 member Lena Pozdnyakova.

Beginning in 1971, Canadian scientist David Fraser spent many years studying the behaviour and welfare of pigs and conveying some of his scientific observations in verse. David Fraser has been writing poems on animals alongside his more than 50 years career in animal welfare science. Many will be known with his books on animal welfare, but may also have noticed snippets of poems in his scientific publications. From his collection of poems, we have selected the ones that relate to positive animal welfare or specifically to subWGs, such as those on choice and agency.

Lena Pozdnyakova is an Artist from Kazakhstan based in Berlin. Her interdisciplinary practice spans ecological research and artistic inquiry, shaped by work on climate change, environmental justice, urban resilience, and the Anthropocene across institutions such as King’s College London, UCLA, SCI-Arc and FU, while also exploring human–animal relationships, and she is a New Roots Institute Fellow.

The illustrated poems are placed under Other Outputs on the website.
