On the 11th November, LIFT organised a webinar on positive emotions in humans & non-human animals. During the webinar, Dr. Barbara Fredrickson and Dr. Becca Franks shared their ideas and research findings on positive emotions. Barbara Fredrickson – a social psychologist, studies emotions and positive psychology, focusing on the broaden-and-build theory, which links positive emotions to behaviours that foster lasting resources like knowledge and relationships. She is the author of Positivity (2009), a popular book drawing on her research and that of other social scientists. During her presentation she also referred to her latest book Love 2.0.
Becca Franks – Becca’s research focuses on animal behaviour, aquatic animal welfare, human-animal relationships, and the application of quantitative methods. She investigates how animals are impacted by the Anthropocene and how understanding their behaviour can inform solutions to its challenges. She has published widely and co-edited a special issue on Animal Behavior and Welfare for Frontiers in Veterinary Science.
